Your local Mobile Library Service

Mobile libraries are free to join and are open to people of all ages.  Items can be chosen from the vehicle or reserved via the online catalogue for collection from a mobile library. They can be returned to any branch library or mobile library in Norfolk.  All mobile libraries are equipped with a lift for people with mobility problems and wheelchair users.

Our mobile libraries offer:

  • Fiction books for adults and children (book request: adults – 60p, children – free)
  • Non-fiction books for adults and children (subject requests are free)
  • Large print books (book request 60p)
  • DVDs for adults and children (a small charge applies)
  • Audio books on CD and tape (tapes – free, a small charge applies for CDs for adults, children – free)
  • Jigsaw puzzles (free)

The mobile library service offers an e-mail reminder system to advise mobile library users that the mobile library will be in their area within the next two days.  If you wish to be added to the mailing lists, please ask your mobile library driver for the green e-mail slip to complete or alternatively contact us direct with your name, e-mail address and mobile library route number.

The mobile library service is keen to recruit more ‘Mobile Library Friends’ – volunteers who help us to promote the service by doing any of the following:

  • telling their friends/neighbours about the mobile library
  • delivering fliers locally
  • putting up posters
  • suggesting improvements/alternative stops.

Changes to Collection Days – Household Rubbish and Recycling Bins

From the 6 June, South Norfolk Council’s rubbish and recycling collection rounds will be changing and it is likely that the day the bins are emptied in your parish will change. We would appreciate if you could assist us with publicising these changes.

Next week we will be sending information packs to every property in your parish explaining what the changes, if any, will be. The pack includes an FAQ leaflet, bin stickers and their new collection calendar.

We thought it would be helpful to let you know what is happening in the ward in which your parish is situated. Below is the information about the new collection schedules across the ward including your parish:

Current collection days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday

New collection days from 6 June: Wednesday, Thursday or Friday

Number of properties:

  • 1168 properties will have rubbish collected on a Thursday and recycling on a Thursday (on a regular alternate cycle)
  • 10 properties will have rubbish collected on a Friday and recycling on a Wednesday (on a regular alternate cycle)
  • 14 properties will have rubbish collected on a Friday and recycling on a Thursday (on a regular alternate cycle)

 

During the changeover to the new service, some properties in your parish may have two collections in the first week. Additional information about these collections will be included in their pack.

This May the elections will be not just for seats in Westminster – but also for the Bergh Apton Village Hall!!

This is something that we should all take an interest in as it is a case of use it or loose it… If Bergh Apton is unable to form a council it may be subsumed into Loddon district.

Candidates may print nominations and submit them between 9am to 4pm each day from 24 March 2015 until 4pm 9 April 2015. Please note the nominations must be delivered in person either by the candidate or by someone they trust, but who that is a decision the candidate must make.

Nomination forms cannot be posted of emailed. I would advise that nominations are delivered as soon as practical within the times and dates indicated, so should there be a problem with a nomination submitted there is sufficient time to resubmit a new nomination if required.
We are asking all candidates to complete a contact sheet as tel & emails are not required on the nomination forms, but if we need to contact candidates it is much quicker to call or email a candidate rather than send them a letter.
We can post nomination packs out to candidates or clerks but only if they are unable to print them.
As in previous elections we will be sending you election notices to be displayed in the parish during the election period, the notices will also be displayed on our South Norfolk Website and in our reception area.
At the close of nominations we will confirm the candidates through the Publication of statement of persons nominated.
The Parish & Town Council Election Count will take place on the 8 May, and the results will be published on South Norfolk website as soon as possible after the count.

NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Order

affecting the C377 Loddon Road at its junction with C376 Sunnyside for 42m in an easterly direction in the PARISH OF BERGH APTON because of works to renew sluice valve.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 31st

April 2015 for the duration of the works, expected to be about 3 days within the nd2 period.

Alternative route is via: C377 Loddon Road, C380 Birch Way, C374 Hall Road, C373 White Heath Road, C377 School Road.

(If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 18 months from the date of the Order).

Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.

In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance.

  7. Anglian Water Compensation

    Letter has been received from Anglian Water apologising for the water supply interruptions. As a gesture of goodwill they will be crediting the accounts of affected customers with £20, roughly equivalent to the cost of one month’s water supply and they will also donate £1,000 to a local charity or community project in the parish. There was some discussion about how best to use the £1,000 donation – one ongoing project is the football goal posts at the Village Hall – Jacqueline Byford is to meet up with Kevin Utton who is the Sales and Marketing Manager of Harrod UK Ltd the UK’s leading goal post manufacturer who lives in Bergh Apton and has kindly offered to assist with advice and the purchase of the goal posts.

  4. Public Meeting to discuss the village website
    Chris Mewton has kindly volunteered to relaunch the village website. There was a lot of discussion
    from members of the public who are very supportive of the project. It was decided that Chris
    Mewton would meet with representatives from all the various organisations and businesses in the
    village who wish to be represented on the website so that they can be ‘trained’ to add their own
    content to their own section on the website. Derek Blake reported that there are 53 small
    businesses in Bergh Apton!
  5. Public Consultation
    The Parish Council was addressed by the applicant from West Five, 1 Mill Road who is seeking
    retrospective permission for use of one room in her house as a hairdressing salon. They were also
    addressed by the neighbour who is opposing this application, on the grounds of the noise and her
    loss of privacy and her residential amenity being affected by the change of use from residential to
    retail business.
  6. The Chairman re-opened the Parish Council Meeting.
    1. Planning Applications
      6.1 West Five, 1 Mill Road – retrospective permission for use of one room in house as hairdressing
      salon 2014/2117
      The following was the response from the Parish Council to the planning department. Bergh Apton
      Parish Council was unable to reach a consensus over the balance between the increasing intensity
      of the business and its impact on the neighbour. There clearly is an adverse impact on the
      neighbour but the Parish Council felt unable to suggest appropriate conditions should the District
      Council wish to approve it. This application will now be heard at the main planning committee on
      10th December.
    2. Site BER 1 Cookes Road
      Julian Wells from FW properties addressed the Parish Council meeting with an update about the
      site opposite the Village Hall. A planning application has not yet been submitted but he anticipated
      one would be in the Spring. If this proposal was to go ahead it would be for 10 or 11 new homes
      including some affordable homes. They would plan to start building late Summer 2015. He explained there were technical ways to deal with the surface water drainage issue of that land
      which would help all the residents along Cookes Road. The inspectors final report is expected early
      2015 and there will be an open meeting for all to attend.

    1. Grant for football posts
      Jacqueline Byford will meet with Maggie Smith, Chairman Village Hall Committee to agree the site
      for the football posts at the Village Hall. The Parish Council agreed to look after the grass cutting
      around the posts and any upkeep needed. The small neighbourhoods grant from South Norfolk
      District Council will be available in the Spring for this project to go ahead.
  9. Defibrillator – Derek Blake
    Derek Blake agreed to look at possible grants for the funding of a defibrillator in Bergh Apton site to
    confirmed – possibly in the phone box at Sunnyside or most likely at the Village Hall.
